Agency NitroPress About
What's a NitroPress? Fair question.
Although Agency NitroPress is a new face in town, it is just that: a new face on a well-established (and now recently relocated) business. It originally came into being as an arm of Nitrosyncretic Press. Nitrosyncretic Press — or, as it's often called, NitroPress — was founded as a publishing house in 1999 and released its first books in 2000. The original focus was on fine volumes of literary criticism.
Over the years, NitroPress became more of a publication development agency than a straightforward publisher. We still publish books, some for general public sale and others for private distribution. We're currently committed to a very large publishing project that will result in some fifty volumes over the next ten years, a matched “standard edition” of a nineteenth century writer's books and other writings.
Over the last decade, NitroPress has produced far more non-book items: advertising, brochures, web sites, event suites, manuals and more. Our design and production capabilities go far beyond those needed for book publication but were generally available only to existing clients and industry insiders. In late 2007, it was decided to take these services to more public availability, distinct from the general publishing operations... and here we are:
Agency NitroPress. At your service.
But wait, there's more. All of the above took place in Northern California, which we left behind in June of 2011. We're now firmly established just east of Hartford, Connecticut, bringing West Coast style, metropolitan class and purely local service to central Connecticut.
Agency Principal: James Gifford
Hi, I'm Jim. I'm the principal of Agency NitroPress, and combine nearly all of the agency services in one chair. I stand on almost thirty years of experience as writer, editor, graphic designer, publication designer, advertising and marketing support specialist, photographer, publications director, business VP and event coordinator.
Author of four books on a variety of subjects and lead editor on the current Nitrosyncretic Press megaproject, I also have a decade of corporate publications development experience and several years as Associate Editor for a trade magazine group. I most recently spent 12 years as Business VP and IT Manager for a Sacramento-based educational services firm with more than 100 employees. Of particular pride was serving as the lead organizer and publications director of the 2007 Robert A. Heinlein Centennial, an event that took place in Kansas City and presented a variety of stellar guests from government and private spaceflight, American literature, politics and social engineering to an audience of more than 700 attendees.
I am newly relocated from Northern California to Tolland, Connecticut, east of Hartford, where I live with my wife, our two youngest children and too many Great Danes.
Support Software
Adobe Acrobat
To efficiently review sample documents under development, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Acrobat is a tool that permits creation and viewing of exact images of documents, with all fonts, colors and images in place. Acrobat and its file format PDF permit accurate document viewing on almost any computer, without regard to what application might have created the document. Acrobat permits us to email small document files to you for review instead of having to send paper copies.
Acrobat Reader is free. If you do not have a current version on your computer, you can download and install the most recent version from here:
Adobe Flash
To review online animation files, you will need another Adobe tool, the Flash viewer and plug-in. This permits your browser to display animated Flash files, commonly used for advertising, motion graphics, short videos and other purposes where a still image won't serve. You can download the free Flash support plug-in here:
